Improving Engagement in 16–19 Study Programme - Southend Adult Community College
The aim of this project was to increase attendance, engagement and achievement levels on English Study programmes.
Although the college is an adult provider, it also has a small cohort of 16-19 year-olds, who can't access FE provision for personal or academic reasons. To address poor attendance amongst this group, which was hampering achievement, the project asked vocational tutors to collaborate with the English team, to ensure that opportunities for embedding English were maximised to improve engagement. Initial results from the 'speaking' and 'listening and reading' assessments showed an improvement both in attendance on the day, and achievement.
