City College Norwich: Staff electronic individual development plan (eIDP)

Principal focus of the project

The focus was on enhancing the College’s work on the development of an electronic individual development plan (eIDP) for academic and business staff which linked the induction, probation, appraisal, teaching observation, HR and CPD systems and applied SMART targets to these processes, thereby ensuring the timely completion of key and core activities. The development of the tool was conducted internally for the most part, and was closely integrated with the student system equivalent, and was then tested by an internal mentor focusing on target-setting.

What is this about and what were the main findings?

The practitioners involved in the project concluded that the eIDP was successfully aligned with the appraisal process, and that the next stage of development should be ensuring that the platform provides support and evidence for CPD. They also concluded, based on questionnaire feedback from the training and testing programme, that the user base has largely accepted the platform and its value for development. Data was gathered through interviews/surveys.
