Supporting and Developing Learners’ Oracy Skills - East Coast College

Principal focus of the project

This project sought to find strategies to support the development of learners’ oracy, especially in the area of technical terminology.

Areas of learning
What is this about and what were the main findings?

The project drew on 'Voice 21' to help them focus on specific skill areas such as vocabulary, working with others and structure. The strategies selected included using Tarsia puzzles, creating glossaries, and identifying learners as experts. The project found the most popular strategy with teachers was building glossaries, partly because they could reinforce core vocabulary that learners were struggling to retain, but also because they were more easily transferable across subjects.
