Developing Resilience and Motivation in GCSE English Resit Learners - Buckinghamshire College Group

Principal focus of the project

This project aimed to develop a more positive and resilient mindset in learners resitting GCSE English.

What is this about and what were the main findings?

The project focused on two specific strands: the use of ‘heat maps’ to enable ‘responsive’ teaching to meet the needs of all learners; and the delivery of activities - using the VESPA model - to develop learner resilience, engagement and motivation. Assigning Advanced Practitioners to support teaching staff was seen as key to the culture change required across programmes. Early feedback showed that learners had found the 'heatmaps' useful, and that learner resilience appeared to be improving.
