LSIS Research Development Fellowship (RDF) projects 2012-2013: Putting the pieces together: How practitioner research improved the employability of students studying Maths and English - poster
The focus was on identifying techniques/approaches to improving skills for employability within English and Maths courses, identifying the needs and expectations of partner organisations, and the needs and expectations of students. It also aimed to develop a useful strategy for Assessment for Learning, and a meaningful assessment method.
Findings included: Tutor and student achievement rates were positively affected by sharing of good practice. Understanding of learning goals by tutor and student dramatically increased achievement rates and personal efficacy. Use of a meaningful AFL method encouraged the concept of ownership and self efficacy. Use of AFL empowered students, encouraging their participation in continuous access to descriptive feedback. Data was gathered from interviews/surveys.
