LSIS Research Development Fellowship (RDF) projects 2010-2011: Explore, Experiment, Improve your Practice: Action Research in Adult Community Learning

Principal focus of the project

The researcher focused on tutors who had been observed delivering grade 2 learning sessions, who were not otherwise provided with specific development support. They devised a strategy for supporting teachers' experiments within the project and for prompting reflection and awareness raising through Action Learning Sets supported by a facilitator.

Areas of learning
What is this about and what were the main findings?

The project found the tutor-centred supported experiments were successful in improving practice, with all stakeholders in each of the case studies benefiting to some degree. Tutor and learner confidence and autonomy was increased, and learner involvement in the teaching and learning process was also increased.
