Excellence Gateway
This section is about improving your approaches to teaching and learning. It relates to areas you may wish to improve such as session planning, teaching to meet the needs of learners, use of feedback, use of materials in learning sessions and the sharing of good practice. Good teaching and learning is central to improving learners’ achievements. The actions in this section will help you to engage learners and increase the involvement of employers and other stakeholders in your training.
There are a possible six quality improvement actions that you can consider for improving teaching and learning, take a look at each and decide how you could use or adapt them to plan improvements to your provision. Please look at the relevant Building Better Practice and Good Practice Database examples for this area as these highlight what Ofsted inspections have identified as particularly effective practice from providers. Each action includes an activity plan for you to adapt for use with your staff. This is a Word document that can be adapted to form a template for organising improvement activities. The activity plan may be linked to resources such as handouts and link to Building Better Practice and Good Practice Database examples for you to consider with your colleagues. There is a blank AQI action plan that you can use and adapt to help manage your improvements, containing review points and a suggested 'RAG' system to help keep you on target. Please also remember to do a search on the Excellence Gateway which contains many useful links to the quality improvement work of other agencies and highlights up-to-date examples of effective practice in the Further Education sector.
