The Davis counselling approach

The following pages will summarise how a local college has worked successfully with a Davis facilitator, using the Davis counselling methods.

Over the past three years, the Entry-to-Employment Unit at Abingdon & Witney College has established an innovative partnership with a local Davis facilitator (Hilary). The partnership gives learners the opportunity to receive an intensive, LSC-funded, 5-day programme, followed by regular support in college, provided by a learning support assistant, trained by the Davis facilitator.

We will be looking at these methods with a teacher and two learners at Abingdon & Witney FE College in Oxfordshire.

The programme manager feels that the quality of experience offered by an intensive week is much more satisfactory than the weekly sessions they used to offer their learners. The Davis facilitator agrees, but also states that it is also "possible to do quality work in a college" setting, as she has done herself in the past.
