How inspectors report on self assessment

Inspectors make judgements both on the self-assessment process and the self-assessment report. The criteria for reaching judgements are described in the self assessment and inspection booklet in the Inspection Toolkit.

• all Ofsted inspection reports include judgements on self assessment including the process and the accuracy of the findings (these will be seen in capacity to improve, areas of learning and leadership and management)
• inspectors place a great deal of emphasis on the effective management of quality improvement
• these judgements are made for each area of learning and for the provider as a whole 

This guide will help you to include everyone in the process, put together the report, and move on from this to plan for improvement. The sections in this guide are:

  This section looks at priorities for organisations new to self-assessment, as well as those wanting to improve their current practice. It is particularly aimed at those with a managerial responsibility for self-assessment or quality improvement.

• Making judgements and grading
  When you have collected a range of sound evidence you can then begin to make judgements about your performance in relation to each of the five key questions.
