E-learning example: Making Chemical Titration Safe and Memorable

Overview of the College:

Stockport College is the largest of three colleges serving the metropolitan borough of Stockport. It is located on two sites the town centre and Heaton Moor. The college offers academic and vocational programmes in most programme areas. The college has work-based learning provision for foundation programme students and in construction, engineering, business administration, hairdressing, catering and social care.

Stockport has a population of about 293,000. It is a relatively prosperous area, with unemployment below north-west and national averages, but some areas of the borough have relatively high levels of deprivation.

Description

The Head of Science related an experience of an experiment that went wrong due to learners not following basic health and safety rules. It was hoped that by using video and simulation the health and safety aspects of conducting scientific experiments could be made memorable by showing he consequences of an experiment that did not go as planned.
