Logo of Centres for Excellence in Teacher TrainingThe Peninsula CETT is lead by the University of Plymouth and has 19 members drawn from across the southwest of England. Members are providers of initial teacher training (ITT) for the Lifelong Learning Sector or employers in the Lifelong Learning Sector with trainees undertaking ITT. The Peninsula CETT has two main aims. The first is systematic and sustained engagement between the ITT providers and trainees' employers. The second is the sharing of good practice between ITT providers and trainees' employers in the South West. To achieve these aims three objectives have been established:

  • Objective 1 - broadening support for trainees in the workplace;
  • Objective 2 - deepening the link between the taught and practice elements of ITT;
  • Objective 3 - broadening the current partnerships and networks to share resources and disseminate good practice in ITT and CPD.

In the first year the Peninsula CETT's activities will include establishing the following common practices across member organisations: ITT course reviews with participation from employers and human resource representatives; meetings between mentors and ITT teams; monitoring of mentor arrangements for all trainees. The Peninsula CETT will also fund a number of small scale practice development projects in individual member organisations focused on the CETT's objectives. The Peninsula CETT will also run joint staff development days for member organisations and hold an annual conference to disseminate the findings from the first year.
